چکیده

Cellulases have been used in garment wet processing for approximately eight years. The majortty of cellulase enzyme used In textile appllcatlons has been on cotton. Denim jeans and knit and woven cotton garments are frequently treated. Cellulases effectively improve cotton’s surface eppearanco, hsndie and drape, and nsduce It0 tendency to pili or fuzz after repetitive iaunderings.‘-‘ Today, calblases am also being uwd W benefit man-made c a l l u ~ c 8 . In tftlr study, several man-made cellui& fabrlcs-lyocell (Tencel), rayon (viwose) and celulose acetate-were treated with cellularre. The treated fabrics and untreated controls were tested for surface fuzz removal, softenlng, pilllng, weight and strength. The effect of cellulase on these different celluloslcs varied. On both rayon and lyocell, cellulase altered the handle and drapeabiiity and removed surface fuzz. Cellulase also reduced the tendency of rayon to pill and reduced fibrillation of lyocell. Cellulose acetate was minimally affected by cellulase under the selected test conditions.

Biodegradation of Three Cellulosic Fabrics in Soil

The cellulosic fabrics cotton, rayon, and Tencel® are commonly used in the textile industry (Kroschwitz, 1990). The chemical composition of the fabrics is similar, but they differ in the arrangement of the cellulose polymers in the fabrics (Collier and Tortora, 2001). The basic polymer for all cellulosic fibers consists of repeating glucose units. For the cotton fabric, the cellulosic polymers ...

Net-Immobilization of β-glucosidase on Nonwoven Fabrics to Lower the Cost of “Cellulosic Ethanol” and Increase Cellulose Conversions

The main limitation preventing the use of enzymatic cellulosic ethanol in industrial production is its higher cost which is mainly due to the elevated price of β-glucosidase (BG). Herein, we report on a simple strategy for the in-situ encapsulation of BG for repeated cellulosic ethanol production. In this strategy, BG was net-immobilized into a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) net-cloth layer on a P...

An Improvement in Fluorocarbon Chain Re-orientation by Reactive Dyes

There is an increasing demand for air-dry performance of fluorocarbon finished materials. Thus, dyeing with different types of reactive, mono, bi, and multi-functional, dyes was evaluated as a novel treatment to create correct surface interface to maintain fluorocarbon performance without ironing or tumble drying. The effects of pre-treatment on fluorocarbon finishing of cotton fabric, a cellul...

Photo-Bactericidal Property and Characterization of Cellulosic Fabric Treated with Two Tetra-Cationic Porphyrin Compounds

The cellulosic fabrics bearing the porphyrin as a photo-sensitizer were done in order to prepare efficient polymeric materials for antimicrobial applications. The obtained porphyrin-grafted cellulosic fabrics were characterized by ATRFTIR, DRUV spectroscopy, TG and SEM image. The antimicrobial activity of the products was tested under visible light irradiation against Staphylococcus aureus, Pse...

Treatment of cotton with an alkaline Bacillus spp cellulase: activity towards crystalline cellulose.

We analysed the influence of several enzymatic treatment processes using an alkaline cellulase enzyme from Bacillus spp. on the sorption properties of cotton fabrics. Although cellulases are commonly applied in detergent formulations due to their anti-redeposition and depilling benefits, determining the mechanism of action of alkaline cellulases on cotton fibres requires a deeper understanding ...
